PAUL COUSINS AN ABSTRACT PLACE

By his own admission, the newest offering from London-based producer, composer and ambient music enthusiast Paul Cousins is "more of a sparkler" than a banger. If by that he means light, shiny and full of magic then we'd be inclined to agree. Following his transportive debut 'Thoughts In The Ether', Cousins' second solo piece is another snapshot of a more peaceful world. Looping glistening synths and textural, reversed samples, pure keys move through an undulating sequence of complimentary chords on 'An Abstract Place'. Serving its namesake well, the piece is veiled in a hazy softness that makes it difficult to picture it with any clarity, allowing you to drift away in thought and escape the perils of these suffocating times. -Holly Mullineaux
